My complaint is their "cancellation" process

Below is my original review. Ancestry responded and processed my refund. I do appreciate the response and service. I still think they should improve the cancel process because right now it takes too many steps and I am sure that many are not successful. --------------------------------------------My complaint is their "cancellation" policy and mechanics. I signed up for a limited trial and made sure to go in and cancel after about 80 days of my 90 day trial. On the 90th day I was charged for the next 3 months. My account was not successfully cancelled. I went in and did it again and realized you literally have to click through about 5 levels of "are you sure?", "tell us why you are leaving", etc. I missed that the first time because it looks it cancels by displaying titles like ("Canceling Membership") but if you scroll down there is another button you have to click. This literally occurs about 5 different times. Now it's my fault for not double checking the cancellation but I think their process is deliberately obtuse. They want you to fail on the cancellation which is BS.

A fascinating, in depth and powerful tool

On the whole I'm blown away by how good this site is.Data work is a big part to my job, so I'm demanding. Yet I'm particularly impressed how it allows you to interrogate and work with data to build a family tree. This is site is built by people who understand data and usability. That is increasingly a hard quality to get in website that constantly want to dumb down.On the flip side of that, I can imagine a lot of people will find it hard to get into the deep data interrogation and benefit from it. Power users will ultimately get the best from Ancestry. They offer you plenty of info if you're a novice don't worry, but some of the rewarding facts are when you go and do you own research and piece it together. My advice: be methodical and have patience. The one negative I have found is that it errors quite a bit - 500 errors etc. They are not all the time, but they are enough to be annoying and knock it down a star. There are also times records don't come despite it meeting all the criteria of your search. Often you have to reset and start again and there it is.But it's rare as I exit the trial and pay a subscription that I feel grateful, and want to give money to support such a fantastic and fascinating service.

Good information, but deceptive service. I only wanted the free trial which I thought had been canceled. Two months later I find out that I've been paying a monthly subscription for something I have not used at all. There was no warning whatsoever that my free trial ended or that I was being charged. Now there is no way to get back my $80 that I got nothing out of.

Great Customer Service

I bought my daughter a kit and she didnt do the complete registration for it and no longer had the info for it. When I called to inquire about it, they offered to send me out a new kit free of charge. Thank you!

Not Too Happy Now

I have been a member of Ancestry off and on for the past 12 or so years. For the most part, its has been a good relationship but there are a few snags along the way. I had my DNA done in 2018 and all made sense except for one feature. My results totalled 100% but at the bottom of the list, there was this feature< and I think that means "less than 1%. I have not been given an explanation for this as yet. Moving along, today, I noticed a new possible relative and when I looked at their info, I noticed their results were only 40% , yet Ancestry info said they are a "relative". I don't get how this can be. True, I am not up to speed on all the DNA ins-outs, but seems incorrect to me. Also, there are far too many errors in spelling on computer-generated record info and if the Census, birth, death records are to be taken as true, why are they mis-spelled and duplicated far too much? Am I being unreasonable?? I just may find another genealogy membership elsewhere. Thanks, Carolyn Needham Daniels

Very pleased with customer service agent.

I have been a member of at first as a guest and then with a paid membership for many years now. There are many good parts to Ancestry and some draw backs. I also belong to several other sites and use Ancestry to gather some info the others do not gather. I did the DNA and found it to be a very interesting addition to my research efforts. I have been able to verify many of the DNA matches and love this research. I am very appreciative of those agents still working during this time of crisis because of the Coronavirus. Today I needed to verify my cancellation of paid membership with it in mind that I will most likely start again in a few months. My agent Kevin was so very helpful and pleasant and a pleasure to work with. He solved my issue without any problems and in a very timely manner....Thank you Kevin
