Cabins and when to book them.
I recently traveled with Irish Ferries from Holyhead to Dublin overnight. Not a long journey but we had driven quite a while and needed some sleep. We had planned to sit while traveling so didn't book the cabin at the time of the original booking. Original cabin price (whilst booking) was £24 each way..on the day booking through the information desk on the ferry it was £47 or 50euros..we needed it so we paid the £47...after arriving at our destination I called Irish ferries to book a cabin for our return, they quoted me £67 and we were told there were only 2 cabins left..a double and one with wheelchair access We declined and hoped that it would be £47 on the day of return...it was and there were a lot of cabins available. So..if you require a cabin I would advise you book at the same time as arranging your travel. Our trip was pretty amazing, Dublin is a wonderful City. The Irish ferries staff Dublin side information desk were absolutely brilliant and helped me out more than they know..Thank you ladies :)

Perfectly good crossing
I thought I would post a review on this journey as I had seen some pretty negative reviews recently, and was a little concerned ahead of my trip. I travel frequently Dover-Calais, but always by Eurotunnel (from Folkestone) but their pricing has become ridiculous since COVID, so thought I would try the ferry, which I’ve not done for about 20 yrs.It was the Friday before the half term holiday, and the day thousands of Liverpool supporters tried to get across for the Final in Paris - so a manic day expected. 2 days before, Irish Ferries advised we could expect up to 3 hrs delay at Border Control. In the event, I had 2 hrs delay before getting through Passports. But this was down entirely to Dover Port and French Border Control - it was nothing to do with the ferry companies. Once through, checkin for the ferry was very simple and quick. The only error by Irish Ferries was confusion over Priority Boarding (which I had paid for) - the PB line was loaded last! But in fairness, they then got me to the front of the car deck so I could be second vehicle off.The ferry (Inishmore) was nowhere near full (1425 sailing) but was clean, loads of space, catering facilities were all open and looked ok. I was in the Club Class lounge (£12, to include Priority Boarding), which was very comfortable, with free snacks / non-alcoholic drinks. Toilets were clean. Overall, I couldn’t really fault it, even though I had very low expectations in advance due to the reviews. We left on time, arrived on time, which was saying something given the number of vehicles trying to cross the Channel. The only small issues were the Priority Boarding cockup, and the failure of the credit card system in the Duty Free shop, which meant I, and many other customers, couldn’t purchase anything. But nothing major. As for the 2 hr delay at Passport Control, it was well-organised in the circumstances, but Dover Port infrastructure is simply not able to cope on the busiest days - bear that in mind when choosing your travel date. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with my crossing, and given the price differential with the Tunnel, I am going to have to give serious thought about how I cross the Channel in the future.(Nb: i posted this review on TripAdvisor as well, in case you think you’ve already seen it!)

High speed ferry operated at slow speed.
I bought a ticket for their high speed ferry which should be around an hour quicker than the standard ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. I paid about £40 above the standard fare for it. The ship made the trip at about 25mph rather than the advertised nearly 40mph. It was about 1mph faster than a standard ferry. They saved fuel and got £40 for providing nothing above the standard service. I’ve asked them for a refund of the difference. (update: never got a response from Irish Ferries. Dont waste your money paying for the fast ferry - it’s not guaranteed to be any quicker and if they operate it at slow speed you get nothing back.) Footnote: in November I received an email out of the blue from them refunding the £40. Suprisingly decent of them but the delay shows what a mess they were in. I will probably consider using them next year but will check their trustpilot reviews nearer the time before booking.

Used Irish Ferries for the very first…
Used Irish Ferries for the very first time on Monday 25th March returning after a funeral on Tuesday 26th 2019.It was the most pleasant crossing we have ever had and we look forward to travelling with them again at a later date.

Good ferry service
I use irish ferries rosslare to pembroke twice a year every june, always run efficently very smooth operation, much cleaner and newer ship then stena line which is rundown and old. My only gripe is the cabin prices are way to expensive €76 each way for a 4 berth which i have to get every sail due to health reasons and young kids this should be much cheaper as it is only €35 for a 4 bed same cabin on stena line.

Pleased to get a credit note to Dec 2021. Ferry is still running but due to covid and this being non essential travel cant go.Obviously id prefer cash, but as ferry not cancelled take credit to 2021.

Good customer service on second attempt. We spoke to a first customer support person who was not helpful however when we rang again to rebook our ferry (due to travel ban) they lady was very helpful and looked into reducing the difference we were due to pay. She rang us back after promising us she would and was very reliable.

They are not that bad
Reading all the bad reviews (after I bought my tickets), was so worried and put off that I nearly cancelled my trips with them but was going to lose my money for the tickets so took the risk. I had a return trip Dover-Calais and honestly they are not that bad. We left on time both ways, nice staff and the ferry was actually cleaner than DFDS. Food is quite expensive but I’m not that bothered as ended up not getting anything. Not sure if I just got lucky and there were no delays but I’m happy.
